Thank you to everyone who supported our Virtual Shoebox Drive in 2020! We are so grateful that we were able to provide gifts to local women impacted by homelessness during this particularly difficult time.
The drive is now over until next holiday season, but you can support our efforts all year long!
Here's how you can help in the off-season:
Cette année, nous nous sommes tous sentis isolés, et en particulier les femmes dans les refuges. Remplir une Boîte à chaussures peut sembler différent cette année, mais son impact est le même.
Créez une Boîte à chaussures virtuelle et en quelques minutes, vous rappellerez à une femme touchée par l’itinérance qu’elle est appréciée et que quelqu’un se sent concerné par son bien-être.
In 2012, our Ottawa drive kicked-off: One volunteer; one drop-off location; 40 shoeboxes were collected and delivered to one shelter.
In 2018, over 100 volunteers; 30+ drop-off locations; 3600+ shoeboxes collected and delivered to women at 55+ partner shelters and agencies.
On any given day in Ottawa, 4,000+ women are in crisis (homeless or at-risk of homelessness).
Tara founded the Ottawa Chapter of the Shoebox Project for Women in 2012. In her first year she hosted one drop-off location, collected 40 Shoeboxes and delivered them to women living at one local shelter. Since that time Tara and Krista have helped grow the drive into one of the largest in North America. In 2019, close to 6,000 Shoeboxes were collected at over 30 drop-off locations and delivered to local women in-crisis living at our using the services of over 100 shelters/agencies. Krista and Tara attribute this success solely to the thousands of Shoebox Project Ottawa advocates -- residents, business leaders, media and others -- who believed in the charity and their ability to make a lovely difference in the lives of Ottawa women in-crisis.
