For as long as I can remember, my grandmother and her mother's union group have helped put Shoeboxes together before the holidays. When I saw there was an opportunity to lead in this region, I jumped at the chance. Nobody should be forgotten; little acts of kindness can go a long way. When people support one another, our community grows and becomes stronger. The Shoebox Project is the perfect organization to demonstrate these philosophies, and when I saw there was an opening, I knew it was the perfect place for me to give back and help be a part of something that spreads a little joy to those in need.

The Halifax Shoebox Project occupies the ancestral, traditional and contemporary lands of the Mi’kma’ki First Nations, Wabanaki (Dawnland Confederacy). In particular, our Chapter resides on land ceded in the Peace & Friendship Treaty. We recognize and support the Indigenous individuals and communities who live here now, and those who were forcibly removed from their homelands. In offering this land acknowledgement, we affirm Indigenous sovereignty, history and experiences.
